MILWAUKEE, Wis. (June 14, 2022) – The Aurora Health Care Brew City Battle, an early season college basketball doubleheader that will feature the Wisconsin and Stanford men’s programs and the Wisconsin and K-State women’s teams at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wis., is set for Friday, Nov. 11, adding a signature event to the opening week of the 2022-23 college basketball season. It will be the first time that American Family Field has hosted a college basketball event, and the first staged in a baseball-only park since San Diego played San Diego State at Petco Park in 2015.

Intersport, a Chicago-based events and marketing agency that also owns and operates the Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off and manages the CBS Sports Classic during the non-conference season, led creative concepting for the event and will handle all ticketing, marketing and operations. Wisconsin-based Aurora Health Care, which offers health care services to more than 30 counties in eastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois, is the event’s title sponsor.

Tickets for the Aurora Health Care Brew City Battle will go on sale on July 26. Fans can immediately log on to brewcitybattle.com and register to receive email alerts regarding ticket details, premium hospitality options, unique experiences and other event information.

The court at the Aurora Health Care Brew City Battle will be positioned across the infield, with center court near the pitcher’s mound. Temporary seating will be installed just beyond second base along with additional field-level seating around the court to provide a premium fan experience. Tickets for on-field seats will be all-inclusive with a variety of food and beverage options. Additionally, nearly all of the existing seating areas of American Family Field will be available. The games will be played in primetime with television designations to be announced at a later date.

The teams will also play in future years, with the Wisconsin women’s team traveling to K-State in 2023 and the Wisconsin men’s squad facing the Cardinal at a to be determined neutral site in California in 2024. Dates for both future games are to be determined.

About the Teams of the Aurora Health Care Brew City Battle

This season, the Wisconsin men’s basketball team will be looking to defend its share of the 2022 Big Ten Regular Season Championship, while needing to replace a pair of key contributors from last season’s team, potential NBA lottery pick Johnny Davis and graduating senior Brad Davison. The Badgers, however, will return three mainstays from last season’s starting lineup, including Big Ten All-Freshman team member Chucky Hepburn, Honorable Mention All-Conference performer Tyler Wahl and Steven Crowl. Leading the Badgers to two Big Ten titles in the last three seasons, reigning Big Ten Coach of the Year Greg Gard has guided UW to five of the last six NCAA tournaments since taking over the program midway through the 2015-16 season, including a pair of regional semifinal appearances during that stretch.

The Wisconsin women’s basketball program is led by second-year head coach Marisa Moseley, winner of five national championships as an assistant coach at UConn in the early to mid-2010s. Prior to joining the UW program for the 2021-22 season, Moseley was the head coach at Boston University, her alma mater, for three seasons, where she compiled a 45-29 record and won the 2019 Patriot League Coach of the Year honor. In the three years prior to her arrival at Boston, the program was 26-63, and Moseley is eyeing a similar turnaround in Madison. Last season, the Badgers won their most conference games in a season since 2015 and this season will return six of their top seven scorers, led by All-Big Ten honoree Julie Pospisilova.

The Stanford program, which is under the direction of seventh-year head coach Jerod Haase, returns a young core that won 16 games last season, including its first win over a top-five opponent since 2007 and its first over a top-25 team on the road since 2014. Harrison Ingram won Pac-12 Freshman of the Year accolades in 2022 and figures to be one of the top players in the Pac-12 next season. Rising senior Spencer Jones returns after earning All-Conference accolades last year, punctuated by career-best performances in Stanford’s conference tournament games. Meanwhile, juniors Michael O’Connell and James Keefe were regular starters, while senior Brandon Angel was the team’s fourth-leading scorer at nearly 8.0 points per game. Stanford returns nearly 80 percent of its scoring and minutes played, while also welcoming the addition of graduate transfer Michael Jones from Davidson.

The K-State women’s team, which has appeared in four of the last six NCAA Tournaments, will return all five starters from a team that finished the season with 20 victories and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The team will be led by 2022 first-team All-America and three-time All-Big 12 performer Ayoka Lee, who averaged 22.0 points and 10.3 rebounds per game last season. A trio of rising sophomores, Serena Sundell, Brylee Glenn and Jaelyn Glenn, each were full-time starters for K-State last season, with Brylee Glenn and Sundell being named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team. In eight years under head coach Jeff Mittie, K-State is 145-110, while Mittie is just one victory away from 600 in his 30-year coaching career.

Stanford holds a 6-4 all-time edge in the series against Wisconsin, having lost the last matchup in 2018 in the Bahamas, 62-46. On the women’s side, the Badgers won the lone prior meeting against K-State, earning a 56-53 neutral-site win in Las Vegas in 2006.
